DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks faced a challenging situation ahead of their home match against the Miami Heat on Thursday night, as both Kyrie Irving and Klay Thompson were added to the team’s already extensive injury list. This development meant that none of the Mavericks’ starting players from their season opener would be available for this game.

Irving was sidelined due to a shoulder injury, while Thompson was dealing with a foot sprain he acquired after the previous night’s game in which the Mavericks triumphed over the Golden State Warriors with a score of 110-104.

In the last game, Irving delivered an impressive performance, scoring 42 points, marking the fifth consecutive game where he played over 40 minutes. Meanwhile, Thompson recorded 17 points in 34 minutes against the team he had been part of for over a decade.

Additionally, the Mavericks were without their other opening night starters, including center Daniel Gafford, who is coping with a sprained knee, power forward P.J. Washington Jr., who has an ankle sprain, and superstar guard Luka Doncic, who was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers on February 1.

Head coach Jason Kidd announced that a total of eight players would be unavailable for the game on Thursday. In addition to Irving and Thompson, this list featured recently acquired forwards Anthony Davis, who is dealing with a groin injury, and Caleb Martin, who has a strained hip. Furthermore, center Dereck Lively II is on the list due to an ankle stress fracture, and Dwight Powell is also sidelined due to a strained hip.
