GOODYEAR, Ariz. — The Cincinnati Reds have reached an agreement with pitcher Scott Barlow on a one-year contract that also includes a club option for the 2026 season.
The team made the announcement regarding the contract on Thursday. In conjunction with this move, pitcher Julian Aguiar has been placed on the 60-day injured list as he is anticipated to be sidelined for the entire season due to recovery from Tommy John surgery that he underwent last October.
Scott Barlow, a right-handed reliever, has participated in 365 Major League games throughout his seven-year career, focusing exclusively on relief pitching. He has compiled a career record of 23 wins and 21 losses, along with 58 saves and a 3.49 earned run average, while accumulating 461 strikeouts over 387 innings pitched.
Last season, the 32-year-old righty posted a record of 3-3 with a 4.25 ERA across 63 games while playing for Cleveland. During that time, he struck out 68 batters in 55 innings but was released in mid-September. Barlow began his MLB journey with the Kansas City Royals in 2018 and was traded to the San Diego Padres during the 2023 season before eventually moving to the Cleveland Guardians the following offseason.
