FORT WORTH, Texas — In a thrilling matchup on Wednesday night, Vasean Allette sank a decisive 3-pointer with just 0.8 seconds remaining, allowing TCU to narrowly defeat Oklahoma State 73-72.
As the game came down to the wire with TCU trailing 70-67 and only 33 seconds remaining, Oklahoma State’s Dean Arturo missed two crucial free throws. However, an offensive rebound by Marchelus Avery kept the Cowboys’ hopes alive. Brandon Newman then scored a jumper in the paint, bringing Oklahoma State to within a single point. They managed to force a turnover which allowed Abou Ousmane to execute a dunk with just 18 seconds left, giving the Cowboys their first lead of the game at 71-70.
After TCU missed their shot, Newman converted one of his two free throw attempts, putting Oklahoma State ahead 72-70 with only three seconds on the clock. TCU responded with a long inbounds pass, which Micah Robinson managed to tip to Allette. From approximately 30 feet out, Allette successfully made a turnaround jumper for the win.
Allette finished the game with 16 points, six rebounds, seven assists, and seven turnovers for TCU (13-11, 6-7 in the Big 12). Other notable players for TCU included Noah Reynolds with 13 points and eight assists, Micah Robinson also contributing 13 points, and Malick Diallo adding another 10 points.
On the opposing side, Oklahoma State’s Bryce Thompson led the scoring with 17 points, while Ousmane contributed 15 points to the team’s effort (12-12, 4-9 overall).
In the first half, TCU maintained control of the game, never trailing and establishing an eight-point lead on two occasions. Oklahoma State made a late surge, closing the gap to 32-30 before TCU pulled ahead with three-pointers from Robinson and Trazarie White, closing the first half at 38-31.
Looking ahead, Oklahoma State will take on No. 12 Texas Tech on Saturday, while TCU will travel to face Arizona State on the same day.
