DOHA, Qatar — In an exciting matchup at the Qatar Open, defending champion Iga Swiatek triumphed over Linda Noskova in a closely contested match, winning 6-7 (1), 6-4, 6-4 to secure her place in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Swiatek, who is seeded second in the tournament, is set to face Elena Rybakina in the next round after Rybakina’s impressive victory against Rebecca Sramkova, which she won with a score of 7-6 (1), 6-2.

Jessica Pegula, the sixth seed, also moved forward in the competition by defeating Daria Kasatkina with a scoreline of 6-3, 7-5. Pegula’s next challenge will come from Ekaterina Alexandrova, who cruised past Elise Mertens with a 6-4, 6-2 win. Alexandrova, currently ranked 26th in the world, previously eliminated top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka in a three-set match on Tuesday.

Jasmine Paolini, the No. 4 seed from Italy, faced an early exit after losing to Jelena Ostapenko in a one-sided match that ended 6-2, 6-2. Ostapenko will now go on to compete against Ons Jabeur, who secured her spot in the quarterfinals by defeating Sofia Kenin 6-3, 6-4.

In other results from Tuesday, Coco Gauff was knocked out of the tournament by Marta Kostyuk, who won their match 6-2, 7-5. Kostyuk is now set to play against Poland’s Magda Linette.
