NEW YORK — Misty Copeland is all set to take young audiences on yet another enchanting adventure into the world of ballet.
The renowned principal dancer for the American Ballet Theatre is gearing up to release a sequel to her popular picture book, “Bunheads.” Scheduled for launch on September 16, the new edition, titled “Bunheads, Act 2: Dance of Courage,” will be published by Nancy Paulsen Books, an imprint of Penguin Random House. Once again, the illustrations will be created by Setor Fiadzigbey.
In a statement released this Wednesday, Copeland expressed her enthusiasm about returning to the story, stating, “Crafting the follow-up to ‘Bunheads’ has brought me immense joy, taking me back to the environment where my own ballet story commenced. Revisiting these beloved characters feels deeply personal and encapsulates the community that raised me both as a dancer and as an individual. Through the ballet performance of ‘Don Quixote,’ we delve into themes of resilience, kindness, and the significance of friendship—values that were pivotal in my formative years.”
In addition to her upcoming release, Copeland is the author of other notable works, including “Life in Motion” and “Black Ballerinas: My Journey to Our Legacy.”
