NEW YORK — The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced its nominees for induction in 2025, featuring a diverse lineup that includes notable names such as Mariah Carey, Chubby Checker, Cyndi Lauper, OutKast, and Phish. Joining these iconic artists are the Black Crowes and Oasis, two musical sibling groups known for their public disputes and recent reconciliations.

The Hall disclosed a total of 14 performer nominees on Wednesday, which also includes Bad Company, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Maná, Soundgarden, and the White Stripes. Among these, eight performers have received nominations for the first time this year: Bad Company, the Black Crowes, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Maná, OutKast, and Phish.

Carey and Checker stand out as two significant nominees this year, having made lasting impressions on charts and pop culture. Mariah Carey boasts an impressive 19 No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. At the same time, Chubby Checker’s renowned tracks, “The Twist” and “Let’s Twist Again,” are celebrated as some of the most universally appealing songs within the rock genre.

Oasis, a leading British band from the 1990s, produced numerous hits like “Wonderwall” and “Don’t Look Back in Anger.” Characterized by their anthemic choruses, the band’s unique dynamic stemmed from the collaboration and rivalry between guitarist Noel Gallagher and his brother Liam, the lead vocalist. The Black Crowes, known for their fusion of Southern rock styles, began their journey with the debut album “Shake Your Money Maker” and saw a lengthy period of estrangement between brothers Chris Robinson and Rich Robinson.

Cyndi Lauper gained recognition in the 1980s with hits like “Time After Time” and the iconic “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.” She later demonstrated her versatility by winning a Tony Award for the musical “Kinky Boots.” OutKast, comprised of André 3000 and Big Boi, offers a unique contribution to the hip-hop genre, holding six Grammys and renowned for their creative approaches to music.

The Hall of Fame will announce the 2025 inductees in late April, alongside those who will enter under special categories including Musical Influence, Musical Excellence, and the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award. To qualify for induction, artists must have launched their first commercial recording at least 25 years prior. The induction ceremony is set to take place in Los Angeles this coming fall.

Voting will be conducted by over 1,200 individuals from within the music industry, including artists and historians. The selection is based on various criteria, such as the artist’s impact on their contemporaries, the breadth and durability of their careers, and their innovation and artistic merit.

Last year’s inductees included a notable lineup featuring Mary J. Blige, Cher, Foreigner, A Tribe Called Quest, Kool & The Gang, Ozzy Osbourne, the Dave Matthews Band, and singer-guitarist Peter Frampton.
