AHMEDABAD, India — In the third one-day international cricket match against India, England captain Jos Buttler won the toss for the third time in a row and opted to field first on Wednesday. This match serves as the final warm-up for both teams ahead of the upcoming 2025 Champions Trophy, set to take place in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.
India has already secured the series with a 2-0 lead, having achieved victories by four wickets in both Nagpur and Cuttack. With the series outcome settled, both teams made several alterations to their lineups. England saw the introduction of aggressive batsman Tom Banton, who replaced all-rounder Jamie Overton and is anticipated to bat higher in the order.
On the Indian side, pace bowler Mohammed Shami and left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja were given a rest, while spinner Varun Chakravarthy was unable to participate due to lingering effects from his previous game in Cuttack. New faces included left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav, fast bowler Arshdeep Singh, and allrounder Washington Sundar, who stepped in to strengthen the team’s bowling options.
Star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was expected to feature in this match to showcase his fitness ahead of the Champions Trophy. However, he was recently ruled out of the tournament due to a lower back injury. The pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium consists of black soil, which may become challenging over the course of the match as it could produce variable bounce.
