DALLAS — In a commanding performance, Kario Oquendo and Samet Yigitoglu each contributed significantly, scoring 17 points apiece, leading SMU to an impressive 83-63 victory over Pittsburgh on Tuesday night. This marks SMU’s fifth consecutive win, demonstrating their growing momentum in the league.

Kario Oquendo showcased his shooting prowess, going 5 for 8 from the field and impressively sinking 4 of 6 attempts from beyond the arc. Freshman center Samet Yigitoglu also made an impactful contribution, recording a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, improving on his season averages of 10.7 points and 6.6 rebounds.

Adding depth to the scoring, both Matt Cross and Boopie Miller chipped in 13 points each for SMU, which managed to shoot an impressive 56% from the field, converting 29 of 52 shots, including 10 of 20 from three-point range.

For Pittsburgh, Guillermo Diaz Graham led the scoring with 15 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Brandin Cummings followed closely with 12 points, while Ishmael Leggett contributed 10 points. However, the Panthers struggled offensively, shooting only 32% from the field, resulting in their fourth consecutive defeat.

SMU established a significant lead within the first eight minutes of play, heading into halftime with a solid 43-27 advantage. In that first half, Miller recorded nine points, and B.J. Edwards also made his presence felt, scoring all eight of his points before the break.

Despite an attempt by Cummings, who hit a three-pointer followed by a fast-break layup to narrow the gap to 13 points at 58-45, Pittsburgh was unable to close the distance any further.

Looking ahead, SMU is set to host Wake Forest on Saturday, while Pittsburgh will be looking to bounce back as they take on Miami at home.
