MUNCIE, Ind. — Jermahri Hill delivered an impressive performance, scoring 21 points including a crucial go-ahead dunk with just two seconds remaining in overtime, as Ball State edged out Eastern Michigan with a close score of 86-84 on Tuesday evening.
Hill also contributed significantly with eight rebounds and seven assists for the Cardinals, who improved their record to 12-12 and 5-6 in the Mid-American Conference. Payton Sparks complemented Hill’s scoring by converting 5 of 7 shots from the field and hitting 9 of 11 free throws for a total of 19 points. Jeremiah Hernandez added to the scoring, finishing the game with 18 points, including shooting 5 for 9 from the floor and 7 of 8 from the free-throw line.
For Eastern Michigan, Jalen Terry emerged as the leading scorer, racking up 25 points while also providing five assists and three steals. Teammate Christian Henry supported the effort with 18 points and three steals, while Da’Sean Nelson contributed 17 points, six rebounds, and eight assists.
Ball State had a narrow lead going into halftime, up 40-33, with Hill scoring 11 points by that point. However, the second half saw Eastern Michigan outscore Ball State by a margin of seven points, leading to a tense tie at 75-75 as the regulation time came to an end.
Looking ahead, both teams are set to play again on Saturday, with Ball State hosting Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan facing Toledo in their home arena.
