LOS ANGELES — Left-handed pitcher Kirby Yates is set to enhance his earnings potential with performance bonuses amounting to $100,000 included in his one-year contract with the Dodgers, valued at $13 million.
The agreement, made public on January 30, includes a $3 million signing bonus alongside a salary of $10 million for this season.
Yates can gain additional bonuses of $50,000 each for achieving 50 and 55 relief appearances during the year.
At 37 years old, Yates enjoyed a successful 2023 season, finishing with a record of 7-2, a remarkable career-low ERA of 1.17, and securing 33 saves while pitching for Texas. Prior to signing with the Dodgers, he had come to terms with the Rangers on a one-year contract worth $4.5 million in December 2023.
Throughout his career, Yates has made impressive contributions, holding a record of 26-21 with a 3.17 ERA and 95 career saves over 422 relief appearances, having also played for teams including Tampa Bay, the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Angels, San Diego, and Atlanta. He was selected as an All-Star twice and was originally drafted in the 26th round by Boston in 2005.
His standout season came in 2019 with the Padres, where he recorded a win-loss record of 0-5, posted a remarkable 1.19 ERA, and led the league with a total of 41 saves, alongside achieving a personal best of 101 strikeouts over 60 and two-thirds innings pitched.
