LAS CRUCES, N.M. — On Saturday night, UTEP secured a narrow 66-63 win over New Mexico State, with Devon Barnes leading the Miners by scoring 18 points.
Barnes managed to make 4 of 14 shots from the field and 1 of 6 from beyond the arc, while he was particularly effective at the foul line, converting 9 of his 11 attempts.
Otis Frazier III contributed significantly with 16 points, shooting 6 of 11 from the field, including 2 of 6 from three-point territory, and pulled down nine rebounds despite struggling on free throws with only 2 of 7.
Kevin Kalu chipped in with nine points, making 4 of 7 shots and securing 10 rebounds, further aiding UTEP’s efforts.
For the Aggies, Emmanuel Tshimanga was the standout performer, recording 13 points, six rebounds, and two blocks.
Christian Cook supported the team with 12 points and three steals, while Zawdie Jackson added another nine points to the scoreline.
At halftime, UTEP held a slim lead of 28-24 over New Mexico State, highlighted by Frazier’s eight points in the first half.
Although UTEP was narrowly outscored in the second half, they managed to maintain their lead, with Barnes contributing 10 crucial points during this period.
Looking ahead, both teams are scheduled to return to action on Thursday, with UTEP set to host Florida International and New Mexico State preparing to face Liberty at home.
