HOUSTON – Milton Matthews delivered an impressive performance, netting 19 points, as Florida A&M edged out Texas Southern with a final score of 66-64 on Saturday evening.
In a thrilling finish, Kavion McClain drained a 3-pointer for Texas Southern, leveling the score at 64 with just 20 seconds left on the clock. However, Matthews quickly responded for the Rattlers, sinking another 3-pointer with approximately two seconds to go, sealing the victory.
In addition to his scoring, Matthews contributed significantly on the boards with six rebounds and showcased his defensive skills by recording three steals. This win marked a notable achievement for the Rattlers, bringing their record to 9-12 overall and 6-4 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Kaleb Washington added 15 points to the effort, hitting 6 of his 16 attempts, and made one out of five shots from three-point territory. Jamine Charles also made a strong impact, scoring 14 points on an efficient shooting night, going 3 for 4 from the field and hitting all eight of his free throw attempts.
On the other side, the Tigers were led in scoring by Kehlin Farooq and Zaire Hayes, each contributing 14 points to the team’s effort. McClain had a solid game as well, finishing with 12 points along with seven assists and two steals.
