SANTA CLARA, Calif. — In an impressive performance off the bench, Elijah Mahi propelled Santa Clara to a decisive 93-70 victory over San Diego on Saturday evening, putting up a remarkable 28 points.
In addition to Mahi’s standout scoring, he contributed significantly with six rebounds and seven assists, helping the Broncos improve to a record of 17 wins and 9 losses, alongside 9 wins in the West Coast Conference.
Adama Bal provided strong support, finishing the game with 15 points while making 4 of his 8 attempts, which included 3 for 6 from beyond the arc. He also added five assists. Carlos Stewart had an effective outing as well, scoring 14 points on 4 of 7 shooting from the field, including 2 of 3 from three-point distance, and converting all four of his free-throw attempts.
The Toreros had their leading scorer in Steven Jamerson II, who amassed 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Bendji Pierre chipped in with 12 points, and Neel Beniwal contributed six points to the team’s efforts. Unfortunately for San Diego, this loss marked their twelfth consecutive defeat, deepening their struggles this season.
The game saw Santa Clara take control approximately 4.5 minutes into the contest, maintaining a solid lead throughout. By halftime, the Broncos were ahead 48-36, with Mahi scoring 11 points by the break. He continued to dominate in the second half, adding another 17 points to his tally as Santa Clara outscored San Diego by 11 points in the latter period, ensuring a comfortable win.
Looking ahead, Santa Clara is set to face Saint Mary’s on the road this upcoming Tuesday, while San Diego will travel to match up against Pepperdine on Thursday.
