CINCINNATI — Jizzle James delivered an impressive performance, hitting six 3-pointers and scoring a total of 24 points, as Cincinnati overcame BYU with a decisive 84-66 victory on Saturday night.
Despite trailing 42-39 at halftime, Cincinnati launched into the second half with a remarkable 22-2 run, seizing a commanding 61-44 lead and maintaining control throughout the game. During this explosive stretch, Simas Lukosius contributed all five of his points, while Josh Reed punctuated the surge with an electrifying fast-break dunk.
In addition to James’ standout performance, Day Day Thomas added 15 points and Reed finished with 12 for Cincinnati (14-9, 4-8 Big 12), which showcased a strong shooting display, hitting 56% of their field goals (19 of 34).
For BYU (15-8, 6-6), Richie Saunders tallied 15 points, while Egor Demin chipped in with 12. The Cougars managed to narrow the gap to 66-58 with a pair of back-to-back 3-pointers by Kanon Catchings and Mihailo Boskovic, but they were unable to close in further.
This loss came on the heels of a defeat at home against No. 20 Arizona, where BYU fell 85-74 on Tuesday, marking two consecutive losses after a promising four-game win streak was interrupted.
Cincinnati is gearing up to chase its third straight victory with an upcoming home game against Utah on Tuesday, while BYU is set to face West Virginia on the same day.
