NEW YORK — At the Millrose Games held on Saturday, American middle-distance runners Grant Fisher and Yared Nuguse both achieved remarkable victories, setting new world indoor records in the process.

The event took place at The Armory and was highlighted by Fisher’s outstanding performance in the 3,000 meters and Nuguse’s stunning finish in the mile. Fisher, at 27 years of age, clocked in at 7 minutes, 22.91 seconds, breaking the previous record of 7:23.81 that had been held by Ethiopia’s Lamecha Girma for two years.

Fisher, who previously captured bronze medals in both the 5,000 and 10,000 meters at the recent Paris Olympics, had to dig deep for a strong finish to secure his win. Right on his heels was Cole Hocker, who crossed the line at 7:23.14, just narrowly missing the world indoor record himself. Hocker is the current Olympic champion in the 1,500 meters.

Following Fisher’s success, it was time for Nuguse to make his mark. He won the Wanamaker Mile with an impressive time of 3:46.63, breaking the previous record of 3:47.01 set nearly six years ago by Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha.

Nuguse, who is 25, similarly had to rely on a final push to clinch his record-breaking finish. Hot on his heels was Hobbs Kessler, who finished with a time of 3:46.90 and would have surpassed Kejelcha’s record as well.

Both athletes’ world records are pending ratification before being officially recognized.

The event also showcased a strong performance in the men’s 60-meter race, where American runners Marcellus Moore, Trayvon Bromell, and Pjai Austin secured the top three spots. The women’s 60-meter race mirrored this success with a sweep, as Jacious Sears edged out Celera Barnes and Aleia Hobbs for the win.

Overall, the Millrose Games proved to be an exhilarating day for American athletics, with Fisher and Nuguse making history on the indoor track.
