Minessale’s clutch free throws secure 79-76 victory for St. Thomas-Minnesota over Denver

DENVER — In a thrilling contest on Saturday night, the St. Thomas-Minnesota basketball team secured a narrow 79-76 victory over Denver, with Drake Dobbs leading the charge by scoring 21 points.

Nolan Minessale sealed the game for the Tommies when he successfully made a pair of free throws with just 13 seconds remaining on the clock. Meanwhile, Denver’s Isaiah Addo-Ankrah had a chance to tie the game but his attempt from beyond the arc was off the mark, resulting in a loss for the Pioneers.

Dobbs showcased a stellar performance, hitting 7 out of 13 attempts from the field, which included three successful 3-pointers out of six tries. Additionally, he converted 4 of 5 free throw opportunities to help his team’s efforts. Minessale also contributed significantly, scoring 14 points by making 4 of 6 field goals and 6 of 8 from the free-throw line. Carter Bjerke rounded out the scoring for St. Thomas with 13 points, shooting 5 of 7 overall and hitting 2 of 4 from long range.

On the other side, the Pioneers were led by Sebastian Akins, who recorded 19 points along with four assists and two steals. DeAndre Craig offered support by adding 13 points for Denver, while Nicholas Shogbonyo contributed with 12 points of his own.

This victory improves St. Thomas-Minnesota’s record to 19-7 with a conference mark of 9-2 in the Summit League, while Denver falls to 8-18 and 2-9 in the league standings.
