FAIRFAX, Va. — Darius Maddox delivered a standout performance, scoring 24 points to lead George Mason to an 82-67 victory over Rhode Island on Saturday evening.

Maddox showcased his shooting skills, hitting 8 of 12 attempts, including 4 of 6 from three-point territory, and converting 4 of 5 free throws for the Patriots, who now hold a record of 19-5 overall and 10-1 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Jalen Haynes contributed significantly, adding 16 points along with seven rebounds, while Justin Begg also made an impact with 12 points, hitting 4 of 6 from the field and 3 of 4 from distance. This marks the ninth consecutive win for George Mason.

On the opposing side, David Fuchs was a key player for the Rams, finishing with 17 points, eight boards, and two steals. Rhode Island also saw contributions from Sebastian Thomas, who recorded 10 points, five assists, and two blocks, while Javonte Brown chipped in with nine points.

George Mason gained an early advantage just 19 seconds into the first half and maintained that lead throughout the game. They headed into halftime with a 46-40 score, largely thanks to Maddox’s impressive 18-point first-half effort. In the second half, George Mason built their lead to 53-41, powered by a 7-0 scoring run. Haynes emerged as the leading scorer for the second half, contributing another 12 points and helping to secure the victory for the team.

Looking ahead, George Mason is set to face off against Saint Louis on the road this Tuesday, while Rhode Island will host Saint Bonaventure on Wednesday.
