INDIANAPOLIS — In an exciting matchup on Saturday, Jahmyl Telfort delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 24 points to lead Butler to an 82-81 triumph over Providence.
Telfort also contributed significantly in other areas, grabbing five rebounds and notching four steals for the Bulldogs, who now hold a record of 11 wins and 13 losses overall, with a 4-9 standing in the Big East Conference.
Pierre Brooks also had a solid outing, scoring 18 points while shooting 7 of 14 from the field, including a pair of three-pointers from five attempts. Finley Bizjack added 15 points to the scoreboard, making 4 of 7 field goal attempts, which featured a commendable 75% success rate from three-point range (3 for 4), along with going 4 for 5 from the free-throw line.
On the opposing side, Bensley Joseph stood out for the Friars, leading his team with 26 points and two steals. Providence saw additional contributions from Rich Barron, who scored 23 points and recorded two steals, while Corey Floyd Jr. added 17 points and six assists.
In the first half, Patrick McCaffery made his presence felt for Butler, scoring 11 points, helping the Bulldogs to maintain a slim lead of 41-39 at halftime. The second half featured Telfort’s impressive 18-point performance, which proved crucial in securing Butler’s narrow victory by just one point.
