Davis scores 23 as Southern Illinois defeats UIC 79-67

CARBONDALE, Ill. — On Saturday, the Southern Illinois Salukis secured a victory against UIC with a final score of 79-67, highlighted by an impressive performance from Kennard Davis, who netted 23 points.

In addition to his scoring prowess, Davis contributed five rebounds, helping to solidify Southern Illinois’ position in the game. The Salukis, now holding a record of 12-13 overall and 7-7 in the Missouri Valley Conference, saw Drew Steffe also making significant contributions. Steffe showcased his shooting skills by converting five of seven attempts from the field, with an impressive four of five from beyond the arc, totaling 20 points for the evening. Moreover, Damien Mayo Jr. added to the team’s efforts by finishing with 11 points, going three of five from the field and a perfect five for five from the free-throw line.

On the other side, the UIC Flames, who are currently at 15-10 overall and also 7-7 in conference play, had standout performances from Tyem Freeman and Ahmad Henderson II, both scoring 12 points each. Freeman also recorded three steals, enhancing his team’s defensive efforts. Modestas Kancleris contributed to the Flames with eight points and made an impact defensively with four blocks.

Looking ahead, Southern Illinois will face Bradley in an upcoming game this Wednesday on the road, while UIC is set to visit Murray State on Tuesday, aiming to bounce back from their loss.
