EASTON, Pa. — In an impressive performance, Caleb Williams contributed significantly to Lafayette’s win against Navy, finishing the game with 17 points in a 61-51 triumph on Saturday.
Williams demonstrated his shooting skills by making 7 of 13 attempts from the floor, which included a 3-for-7 performance from three-point range. He was supported by Justin Vander Baan, who added 15 points, shooting 7 for 15 overall, along with an impressive 13 rebounds and four blocks. Another strong contributor was Alex Chaikin, who scored 14 points, hitting 5 of 10 from the field, with two of those successful attempts coming from beyond the arc as he went 2 for 3 at the foul line.
On the opposing side, Austin Benigni led the Midshipmen, scoring 19 points, while Jordan Pennick supported the effort with 14 points as well.
The Leopards seized control early in the game, taking the lead just under 19 minutes into the first half and maintained it throughout. By halftime, they held a comfortable 25-16 advantage, with Vander Baan already contributing 10 points. In the second half, Lafayette built on their five-point lead and executed a decisive 9-0 run, which extended their lead to 14 points at 34-20 with approximately 15 minutes remaining in the contest. Williams excelled in the second half, netting 15 points to help secure the victory for the Leopards.
