LOS ANGELES — Kevin Fiala continued his remarkable performance by scoring once again, marking his third consecutive game with a goal, and also helped secure a victory for the Los Angeles Kings over the Dallas Stars with a shootout conversion, leading to a final score of 5-4 on Friday night.
The Kings demonstrated resilience with Anze Kopitar tying the game mid-way through the third period. Additionally, contributions came from Warren Foegele and Alex Laferriere, propelling Los Angeles to their third straight win.
In goal, David Rittich stood tall, making 26 saves and notably stopping Matt Duchene’s attempt during the shootout after Adrian Kempe and Fiala had already successfully converted their shots.
Duchene was a standout for Dallas, scoring two goals and providing an assist, while Thomas Harley and Mavrik Bourque also found the back of the net. Dallas goaltender Jake Oettinger recorded 33 saves.
This loss marked a challenging start to Dallas’s three-game road trip in California, as they faced setbacks in both games thus far.
The game took a pivotal turn in the third period when Duchene scored his second goal, giving the Stars a momentary lead after overcoming a series of deficits throughout the match. His wrist shot from the right circle broke the tie only for Kopitar to respond just under two minutes later. Capitalizing on a setup from Kempe, Kopitar’s goal was a notable milestone, marking his 432nd career goal and surpassing Dave Taylor for third place in the Kings’ all-time scoring list.
In terms of injuries, Dallas’s woes continue, particularly with defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin sidelined due to an undisclosed injury he sustained in the previous game against Anaheim.
From the Kings’ perspective, the strategic move to position Fiala alongside Laferriere and center Quinton Byfield has significantly revitalized a previously struggling offense.
A critical moment towards the end of overtime saw Fiala almost clinch the victory with a powerful one-timer, but the goal was disallowed after a review revealed goaltender interference by Drew Doughty, just 36.4 seconds before the overtime session ended.
Fiala’s impressive streak continues, tallying five goals and an assist in his past three games, and extending his point total in the last eleven games to 13, featuring five multi-point efforts.
Looking ahead, the Stars are set to visit San Jose, while the Kings will be hosting Anaheim, both taking place on Saturday night.
