DOHA, Qatar — Daniil Sokolov continues to show improvement at the Qatar Masters, although his scores remain shy of the qualifying mark. The 13-year-old sensation demonstrated progress in his game, yet with a total score of 7-over par, he will not advance to the weekend rounds.
Representing Qatar while hailing from Russia, Sokolov received a special invitation to participate in the event. In his second round on Friday, he posted a score of 4-over 76, following his first-round score of 75 at the Doha Golf Club. Despite his efforts, he is unfortunately set to miss the cut.
This year’s participation marks Sokolov’s second attempt at the Qatar Masters, having previously played in the tournament last year at the age of 12. In that event, he also missed the cut, scoring rounds of 78 and 82, making these his only two experiences on the European Tour thus far.
Meanwhile, English golfer Brandon Robinson Thompson is currently leading the tournament, posting an impressive score of 68 in his second round, which puts him at 10 under par and two strokes ahead of the competition.
