Ford Motor Company has initiated a recall for close to 200,000 of its electric Mustang models due to a fault in the door latches. These malfunctions might leave some passengers, especially those in the rear seats, stuck inside the vehicle. The recall affects the Mustang Mach E midsize SUVs constructed between the years 2021 and 2025.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has highlighted that these electronic door latches can remain locked once the driver or front-seat passenger has exited the vehicle and closed the door. This situation could pose a significant risk, particularly in scenarios where children or other passengers inside are unable to operate the vehicle’s internal door release systems.

Ford is poised to tackle the issue by updating the software in the affected vehicles. Car owners are expected to receive a notification regarding this safety hazard by June 23, while the remedies will be available at dealerships by late September. For assistance, owners can reach out to Ford’s customer service team through the number 1-866-436-7332, referencing the recall code 25S65.

For additional help or information, vehicle owners are also encouraged to contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-888-275-9171) or to visit their official website for further details.
