In Denver, Deion Sanders has welcomed a new member to his coaching staff at Colorado, enlisting the expertise of Pro Football Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk to lead the running backs.
Faulk joins Warren Sapp and Deion Sanders himself as the third individual on the Buffaloes’ coaching team with a prestigious gold jacket, enhancing the caliber of the coaching staff. Sapp currently serves as the senior quality control analyst for the team’s defense.
The addition of Faulk is aimed at revitalizing a running game that has struggled significantly, ranking among the lowest in the nation for the past two seasons. Currently, Colorado’s offensive strategy has relied heavily on quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, both of whom are predicted to be top picks in the upcoming NFL draft.
Sanders and the Buffaloes concluded last season with a solid 9-4 record, securing a place in the Alamo Bowl. Faulk’s extensive experience as a dual-threat player during his 12-year career with the Indianapolis Colts and St. Louis Rams will be pivotal in this endeavor. He accumulated impressive stats, rushing for 12,279 yards and scoring 100 touchdowns, in addition to making 767 receptions for 6,875 yards and 36 touchdowns.
As he approaches his 52nd birthday, Faulk’s accolades include being named the NFL MVP in 2000, earning the title of offensive player of the year three times, and celebrating a Super Bowl victory with the Rams. Notably, both Faulk and Sanders were part of the legendary 2011 class honored in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Additionally, Faulk is recognized in the College Football Hall of Fame for his remarkable achievements at San Diego State, where he was named a first-team All-American three times and was selected as the second overall pick by the Colts in the 1994 NFL draft. Following a trade to the Rams in April 1999, he contributed significantly to the team’s offense, famously known as the “Greatest Show on Turf.”
