RIVERSIDE, Calif. — The Southern Utah Thunderbirds triumphed over Cal Baptist with a final score of 60-57 on Thursday evening, thanks in part to a standout performance from Jamir Simpson, who secured 22 points during the game.
Simpson also contributed with six rebounds, helping the Thunderbirds improve their season record to 10-13 and 2-7 in the Western Athletic Conference. Hercy Miller reinforced the team’s effort by scoring 14 points while managing to go 5 for 10 from the field, including two successful three-point attempts, and shooting 2 of 5 from the foul line. Miller also grabbed seven rebounds throughout the match. Brock Felder chipped in with six points, converting 3 of his 5 shot attempts as the Thunderbirds ended a challenging five-game losing streak.
On the opposing side, the Cal Baptist Lancers were led by Dominique Daniels Jr., who tallied 18 points. AJ Braun contributed significantly as well, finishing the game with 12 points and pulling down eight rebounds. Javonte Johnson added nine points and recorded three steals for the Lancers, whose current record now stands at 11-11 with a 4-4 mark in conference play.
Looking ahead, both teams are scheduled to play again on Saturday. Southern Utah will welcome Abilene Christian, while Cal Baptist prepares to host Grand Canyon in their next matchups.
