PORTLAND, Ore. — In an impressive display, Santa Clara’s Camaron Tongue contributed 19 points from the bench, leading the Broncos to a dominating 97-50 win over the Portland Pilots on Thursday evening.
Tongue was efficient on the court, hitting 7 of 12 shots and maintaining a perfect 5 for 5 from the free-throw line while helping the Broncos improve to a record of 16-9 overall and 8-4 within the West Coast Conference. Not far behind, Johnny O’Neil scored 18 points, hitting 6 of 10 attempts and 4 of 8 from three-point range, along with nine rebounds. Adama Bal joined in the scoring surge, contributing 16 points with 6 of 11 shooting, including 4 of 7 from beyond the arc.
For the Pilots, who now hold an 8-17 record with a 3-9 conference standing, Chris Austin was the highest scorer with 12 points. Vukasin Masic added 11 points to the team’s tally, and Jermaine Ballisager Webb chipped in with eight points.
The Broncos seized the lead just 15 seconds after the game began and never let it slip away. Bal was particularly effective in the first half, leading his team with 12 points, helping Santa Clara to a 41-31 advantage at halftime. The second half witnessed an even greater lead for the Broncos, who expanded the margin to 82-41, powered by an impressive 17-0 scoring spree. In this stretch, Brenton Knapper emerged as a key player, scoring 15 points and effectively securing the victory for Santa Clara.
Looking ahead, Santa Clara will face off against San Diego at home this Saturday, while Portland is set to host Oregon State on the following Thursday.
