Newby scores 20 as UNC Wilmington defeats Delaware 77-67

NEWARK, Del. — The UNC Wilmington Seahawks secured a 77-67 victory over the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens on Thursday night, pushing their winning streak to seven consecutive games.

Donovan Newby was a standout for the Seahawks, contributing 20 points to the team’s total. He had a shooting performance where he connected on 6 of 18 attempts from the field, including 4 of 9 from beyond the arc, and he converted all four of his free throw attempts. This win improved UNC Wilmington’s overall record to 19-5, including a solid 9-2 in the Coastal Athletic Association. Harlan Obioha also made an impact with 14 points and six rebounds, shooting an impressive 6 for 9 from the floor. Meanwhile, Khamari McGriff contributed 12 points, also shooting 6 of 9.

For Delaware, Izaiah Pasha emerged as the leading scorer, finishing the game with 19 points, along with five assists and three steals. Teammate Trent Middleton added 16 points, and John Camden chipped in with 13 points. Despite their efforts, the Fightin’ Blue Hens, now holding a record of 11-13 and 4-7 in conference play, fell short against the Seahawks.

At halftime, UNC Wilmington was ahead with a score of 41-33, and Newby led the charge with 11 points before the break. After halftime, he continued to lead the team offensively, contributing another nine points.

Looking ahead, both teams will return to the court on Saturday. The Seahawks will travel to face Drexel, while the Fightin’ Blue Hens are set to host William & Mary at their home venue.
