The Vancouver Canucks have made a significant move by solidifying their defensive line. On Wednesday, the team announced a six-year contract extension for recently acquired defenseman Marcus Pettersson, valued at $33 million.

Pettersson, along with forward Drew O’Connor, was brought in from the Pittsburgh Penguins last Friday, shortly after the Canucks traded forward J.T. Miller to the New York Rangers. This strategic move reflects the organization’s commitment to strengthening their roster.

At 28 years old, Pettersson has demonstrated his capabilities on the ice this season, recording three goals and 15 assists over 49 games, two of which were achieved since joining the Canucks. Notably, he logged an impressive 25:57 minutes in his debut for Vancouver, which was a closely contested 3-2 overtime defeat against the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday.

Standing tall at 6-foot-5 and weighing 174 pounds, Pettersson has played a total of 493 games in the NHL, accumulating 17 goals, 134 assists, and 294 penalty minutes. His career spans across the Vancouver Canucks, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Anaheim Ducks, showcasing his versatility and experience in the league.
