    GREENVILLE, N.C. — In a decisive matchup on Wednesday night, Caden Powell played a pivotal role for Rice, scoring 18 points and helping the Owls secure a 73-60 victory over East Carolina, thereby ending a frustrating seven-game losing streak.

    Powell also showcased his versatility with 10 rebounds, contributing significantly to the team’s efforts. Alongside him, Alem Huseinovic added 11 points, shooting impressively at 4 of 6 from the field, including a notable 3 of 5 from three-point territory. He also contributed defensively with three steals.

    For the Pirates, C.J. Walker stood out with a strong performance, leading all scorers with 23 points, complemented by six rebounds and two blocks. RJ Felton provided support with 14 points, seven rebounds, and four assists to keep the game within reach for East Carolina.

    During the game, Powell was instrumental in establishing a lead for Rice, scoring eight points in the first half, which helped the Owls go into halftime ahead at 33-25. In the second half, Rice surged ahead, executing a remarkable 17-3 run that extended their lead to 19 points. Powell accounted for 10 points in this decisive stretch, solidifying his team’s advantage.
