SAALBACH-HINTERGLEMM, Austria — Lindsey Vonn is currently battling an illness, described as either a cold or the flu, just before her first competitive event at the skiing world championships after making a comeback at the age of 40.

The American ski icon, who has claimed two world championships and earned a total of eight medals at the sport’s premier event outside the Olympic Games, is gearing up to participate in the super-G event scheduled for Thursday.

In a recorded statement, Vonn expressed her condition stating, “I definitely have a cold or the flu or something. Yesterday afternoon I started to really not feel well. Trying to do everything I can to recover.”

On her Instagram, she shared a snapshot of herself wearing a mask and seemingly inhaling something for relief, captioning it with, “Current state…could be better.”

During Wednesday’s second downhill training session, Vonn finished in 29th place. Her upcoming events include the downhill race on Saturday and the team combined event scheduled for next week.

Reflecting on her training, Vonn admitted, “Today’s training was fine. Definitely lacked energy, especially on the bottom of the course, but hopefully I can rest the rest of today and be ready for the super-G tomorrow.”

She is set to race with bib number 30 in the super-G event.

In Wednesday’s training session, Austrian skier Mirjam Puchner delivered a standout performance, finishing in first place, while Vonn’s teammate Breezy Johnson from the U.S. secured second place for the second consecutive day.
