LIVERPOOL, England — Trent Alexander-Arnold, the right back for Liverpool, will be sidelined for the crucial second leg of the English League Cup semifinals against Tottenham due to an injury he picked up during the weekend match.
Liverpool is currently trailing Tottenham 1-0 from their first leg encounter, which took place on January 8. The upcoming game will be held at Anfield, where Liverpool hopes to defend their title successfully.
Alexander-Arnold exited the pitch in the 70th minute of Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday, as he was suspected to have sustained a thigh injury.
“He will miss the match tomorrow,” shared Liverpool’s manager Arne Slot on Wednesday. He also indicated the need to assess whether Alexander-Arnold will be able to participate in Sunday’s following match.
Liverpool is set to face Plymouth in the FA Cup, subsequently preparing for a Merseyside derby against Everton in the Premier League the next Wednesday.
Regarding the specifics of Alexander-Arnold’s injury, Slot mentioned, “You could see that he walked off the pitch with some discomfort in his leg, which is the reason for his absence in tomorrow’s match.”
However, he did note that Alexander-Arnold is already on the field for rehabilitation exercises, though not training with the main team, suggesting optimism about the timeline for his recovery.
