U.S. anthem met with boos prior to Toronto NBA game, even with tariff suspension.

TORONTO — During the Toronto Raptors’ matchup against the New York Knicks on Tuesday night, a few fans expressed their displeasure by booing the American national anthem. This reaction indicated that some Canadians remain irked, despite President Trump recently announcing a 30-day halt on tariff threats directed at both Mexico and Canada.

Although the booing was noticeable, it was neither as intense nor as sustained as it was during the previous game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday. Notably, Raptors supporters showed their patriotism by enthusiastically cheering for “O Canada,” particularly celebrating the line “True North strong and free!” with additional fervor.

Similar displays of discontent toward the American anthem were observed during NHL games last Saturday in Ottawa and Calgary. This occurred shortly after President Trump’s implementation of proposed import tariffs that impacted Canada. The trend continued on Sunday night when fans booed the anthem before the Vancouver Canucks faced off against the Detroit Red Wings.
