BATON ROUGE, La. — Cam Amboree led the way with 18 points while Michael Jacobs contributed 17, including two crucial free throws with just three seconds remaining in overtime. This allowed Southern University to secure a thrilling 91-89 win against Jackson State on Monday night, marking the Jaguars’ ninth consecutive victory.
Amboree was also impactful defensively, recording three steals for Southern (14-8, 9-0 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference). Jacobs demonstrated efficiency, hitting 5 of 8 attempts from the field and coming through at the charity stripe with a perfect 7 for 8 showing. In addition to their performances, Dionjahe Thomas also played a vital role, scoring 14 points with an impressive 8 for 8 from the free throw line and 3 of 5 shooting overall.
For Jackson State (6-16, 6-3), Daeshun Ruffin stood out with an impressive performance, posting 23 points, 10 assists, and three steals. He was well-supported by Dorian McMillian, who added 19 points alongside seven rebounds, and Keiveon Hunt, who contributed 14 points and two steals.
