BRIGHTON, England — On the final day of the transfer window, Brighton made some significant moves in response to their heaviest Premier League defeat to date.
The club welcomed Greece Under-21 international Stefanos Tzimas from FC Nuremberg on a contract lasting until 2030; however, he will remain with the second-tier German side for the remainder of the season. Tzimas had recently transferred to Nuremberg from PAOK Salonika after the German team opted to activate their purchase clause during this window.
In a twist of events, Brighton also decided to loan Evan Ferguson, an Irish international, to Premier League rivals West Ham for the remainder of the season. This move reestablishes Ferguson’s connection with Graham Potter, the West Ham manager who previously helmed Brighton.
Brighton’s manager, Fabian Hurzeler, expressed optimism about the loan, stating, “Evan has encountered a frustrating year plagued by injuries. For him to return to his potential and continue his development, consistent game time is crucial. This loan offers him that chance, particularly under a manager he knows well.”
This transfer flurry comes on the heels of Brighton’s shocking 7-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, marking their most significant loss since the 1958-59 season.
Additionally, West Ham confirmed that James Ward-Prowse has returned to the club after completing his loan period at Forest.
In a subsequent clarification, it was noted that the correct first name of Ferguson is Evan, dispelling earlier inaccuracies.
