MALIBU, Calif. — Max Mackinnon delivered an impressive performance with 24 points, guiding the Portland Pilots to an 84-64 victory over the Pepperdine Waves on Saturday night.
Mackinnon also contributed significantly on the boards with six rebounds and facilitated plays with seven assists, helping the Pilots improve their overall record to 8-16, including 3-8 in the West Coast Conference. Chris Austin supported the team’s efforts with 20 points, shooting efficiently with 7 out of 12 field goals, including 2 of 3 from beyond the arc, and also sinking all four of his free throws. Additionally, Austin Rapp scored 12 points, making four of his 12 attempts, four of which were from three-point territory.
For the Waves, Dovydas Butka posted a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Jaxon Olvera contributed 14 points. Moe Odum added nine points and two steals to Pepperdine’s tally.
Portland took charge early in the game, establishing a lead just two minutes into the first half, which they maintained throughout. By halftime, the Pilots were ahead 53-35, with Mackinnon already tallied 17 points by that time. The team continued to build on their lead in the second half, scoring two more points than the Waves, with Austin emerging as the top scorer of the period, notching 10 points.
Looking ahead, Portland will host Santa Clara on Thursday, while Pepperdine is set to travel to face Washington State on Saturday.
