NEW YORK — During the game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday, Knicks forward OG Anunoby exited early after sustaining a sprained right foot.
The incident occurred in the third quarter when Anunoby received a pass near the left sideline while being guarded by LeBron James. Instead of attempting a jump shot, he suddenly dropped to one knee, gripping his lower right leg, prompting James to step away.
Shortly after the fall, Anunoby managed to get back on his feet and made his way to the locker room. The Knicks later confirmed that he would not be returning to the game due to a foot injury.
Following the game, Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau provided an update, stating that X-rays had come back negative. He was uncertain about whether Anunoby would need to undergo an MRI to further assess the injury.
“Obviously praying for the best,” remarked Knicks captain Jalen Brunson post-game. “But I know as much as you guys know right now. Obviously he’s huge for our team.”
At the time of his exit, Anunoby was the leading scorer for the Knicks with 13 points and played a significant role in defending against James.
