SAN DIEGO — In a decisive matchup on Saturday evening, reserve player Myron Amey Jr. propelled Loyola Marymount to a commanding victory over San Diego, finishing the game with 16 points, leading his team to a final score of 78-62.

Amey’s impressive performance included not just scoring but also four steals for the Lions, who now hold a record of 14 wins and 8 losses overall, with a conference record of 6-4 in the West Coast Conference. Jevon Porter supported the effort with a solid 14 points, shooting 6 of 13 from the field, although he struggled from beyond the arc going 0 for 3. He also contributed significantly on the boards, grabbing 12 rebounds. Additionally, Alex Merkviladze added another 14 points, shooting 3 of 10 overall, including a better showing from three-point range at 2 for 4, and sank 6 of 9 from the free-throw line. Merkviladze also pulled down eight rebounds to help his team secure the win.

On the other side of the court, the Toreros, with a bleak record of 4-20 and a conference standing of 1-10, saw Joey Chammaa lead their scoring efforts with 13 points, alongside two steals. Coming behind him, Steven Jamerson II managed to score 11 points while also grabbing a notable 15 rebounds for San Diego. Both teams are set to return to action on Thursday, with Loyola Marymount traveling to face Gonzaga, while San Diego will take on Pacific in hopes of turning around their fortunes.
