BATON ROUGE, La. — In an impressive display of skill, Tre Johnson and Tramon Mark each contributed 18 points as Texas dominated LSU with an 89-58 victory on Saturday night. The Longhorns never faced a deficit throughout the contest, showcasing their strong performance from the start.

Johnson, who recently received his second consecutive SEC freshman-of-the-week title, recorded a shooting percentage of 54% by making 7 of 13 attempts, including two from beyond the arc, while also dishing out five assists. Leading the conference with an average of 19 points per game, Johnson was instrumental in Texas’ offensive strategy. Mark also had a good night, sinking 7 of his 12 shots, adding two 3-pointers and four assists to his tally. Kadin Shedrick contributed significantly with a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, marking his second of the season.

Arthur Kaluma added further support for Texas by scoring 10 points and securing five rebounds, helping the Longhorns maintain their lead.

LSU’s bench player, Jordan Sears, shone with a score of 13, as the Tigers, who now stand at 12-9 overall and 1-7 in the conference, faced challenges following three consecutive losses to ranked opponents. Freshman contributors Vyctorius Miller and Robert Miller III chipped in with nine points apiece, though the starters for LSU managed only 21 points collectively.

In the first half, Johnson’s nine points and Shedrick’s eight, along with their combined nine rebounds, steered Texas to a 31-25 advantage at halftime. Sears responded for LSU with eight points on a commendable 4-for-5 shooting performance.

The second half commenced with Corey Chest scoring on a tip-in for LSU. However, Johnson quickly countered with two free throws, a jumper, and two assists, which ignited a 12-4 run for Texas, propelling them to a 43-31 lead with just over 15 minutes left in the game. Kaluma and Mark then scored four points each during a 10-0 surge, extending Texas’ lead to 49-31, after which the Longhorns controlled the game for the remaining 12:44.

A late effort from Devon Pryor, who tipped in a missed shot, pushed the Longhorns’ lead to a commanding 30 points at 81-51 with 3:15 left on the clock.

Looking ahead, Texas will host Arkansas on Wednesday, while LSU is set to travel to Georgia on the same day.
