The Connecticut Sun are in the process of completing two significant trades, involving DiJonai Carrington and Rebecca Allen, as confirmed by a source familiar with the situation on Saturday.

The transactions will see Carrington move to the Dallas Wings, and in return, the Sun will receive Jacy Sheldon along with the eighth overall pick in the upcoming draft. Connecticut will also relinquish their twelfth pick to finalize the deal.

Rebecca Allen, who was recently acquired from the Phoenix Mercury as part of the Alyssa Thomas trade, will join the Chicago Sky. In exchange, the Sun will acquire Lindsay Allen and the rights to player Nikolina Milic.

This information was shared under conditions of anonymity since the trades have not yet been publicly confirmed. Notably, Saturday marked the first opportunity for teams to officially sign free agents and make trades for the new season.

DiJonai Carrington had a breakout year with the Sun, averaging 12.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game, which led her to earn the league’s Most Improved Player award. Drafted at No. 20 in 2021, she has established herself as one of the premier on-ball defenders in the WNBA.

Jacy Sheldon provided significant contributions to the Wings last season, participating in all 40 games, and starting in 26 of those matches. The fifth overall pick in the previous draft averaged 5.4 points and 2.5 assists.

Rebecca Allen played in 18 games for the Mercury last season before a hamstring injury sidelined her and prevented participation in the Olympics for Australia. During her time on the court, she posted averages of 7.4 points and 3.9 rebounds over 18 starts.

Lindsay Allen, who was also a reliable contributor for the Chicago Sky, played all 40 games last season, averaging 6.6 points and 3.9 assists per game.

Initial reports indicated that the Carrington trade was first noted by Winsidr, while the Chicago Sun-Times reported the trade involving Rebecca Allen.

With these trades, the Sun have now lost four starters from their previous season’s roster, including Carrington, Thomas, and Ty Harris, who were traded. Additionally, Brionna Jones joined Atlanta as a free agent. DeWanna Bonner, another key starter from last year, is now an unrestricted free agent and is not anticipated to return to the Sun.
