WASHINGTON — In a thrilling matchup on Saturday, Matt Rogers was instrumental in American University’s 71-68 victory over Army, marking the Eagles’ seventh consecutive win.

Rogers not only contributed significantly to the scoreboard with 20 points, but he also grabbed eight rebounds, showcasing his all-around performance for American (14-9, 8-2 in the Patriot League). Elijah Stephens added to the effort with 14 points and six rebounds, while Colin Smalls made a notable contribution by scoring 11.

For the Black Knights of Army (12-10, 6-4), Ryan Curry topped the team’s efforts with 19 points, along with eight rebounds and four steals. Jalen Rucker followed closely with 15 points, and Josh Scovens contributed 12 points alongside nine rebounds, making for a competitive game.

The Eagles managed to head into halftime with a narrow lead over Army, 31-27. During the first half, Stephens was key, scoring 10 points. Rogers then took over in the second half, scoring 15 points, which ultimately secured the win for American University.
