In a thrilling matchup on Friday night, Georgetown managed to edge out Butler with a close score of 73-70. Both Micah Peavy and Thomas Sorber played pivotal roles for the Hoyas, each contributing 19 points to the team’s success.
Peavy showcased his versatility, adding nine rebounds and three steals to his scoring tally, helping propel Georgetown to a record of 14-8 and improving their Big East Conference standing to 5-6. Sorber was efficient from the field, hitting eight shots out of 14 attempts, while also making three of four from the free-throw line. He additionally secured five rebounds and nabbed three steals during the game. Malik Mack accounted for 14 points, although he struggled slightly with his shooting, finishing 6 for 17 overall, which included an uncharacteristic 0 for 5 from beyond the arc, but he did convert two of three attempts from the free-throw line.
On the other side, Butler’s efforts were led by Finley Bizjack, who scored 17 points and provided five assists. Andre Screen and Pierre Brooks also made significant contributions, with Screen finishing the night with 16 points and six rebounds, while Brooks tallied 14 points.
The first half saw Peavy scoring 11 points; however, Georgetown found themselves trailing at halftime with a score of 37-36. The Hoyas came out strong in the second half, launching an impressive 15-0 run that allowed them to take command with a 55-44 lead with just over 13 minutes remaining. Sorber’s contribution in the second half was critical as he added nine more points to his total.
Looking ahead, Georgetown will next face Xavier on the road on Tuesday, while Butler will make a trip to Seton Hall for their game on Wednesday.
