YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — In an exhilarating matchup on Thursday night, Youngstown State edged out Wright State with a thrilling 88-86 victory, thanks to a late three-pointer by Juwan Maxey.
EJ Farmer led the Penguins in scoring, netting 23 points and contributing significantly on the boards with seven rebounds. Farmer’s clutch jumper with just 19 seconds on the clock put Youngstown State ahead at 85-84. However, Wright State quickly responded, reclaiming the lead eight seconds later with a jumper from Keaton Norris. In a decisive moment, Maxey converted a crucial three-pointer just before the buzzer, clinching the win as Alex Huibregtse’s last-second attempt for the Raiders fell short.
The Penguins, now holding a record of 14-9 and 8-4 in the Horizon League, had strong support from Ty Harper, who added 17 points and six rebounds to the effort. Nico Galette also played a pivotal role, contributing 15 points, alongside six rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
