QUETTA, Pakistan — A Pakistani man, arrested on Wednesday, faces allegations of murdering his 15-year-old daughter, who was born in the U.S., in what is described as an honor killing. This tragic event was reportedly triggered by her refusal to stop sharing TikTok videos, a popular social media platform among many users in Pakistan. The incident occurred on Tuesday in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, as confirmed by local police chief Babar Baloch.

After moving his family from the United States back to Pakistan, the father initially claimed that an unknown assailant was responsible for his daughter’s death. However, during subsequent questioning by authorities, he admitted to committing the crime. His brother-in-law has also been detained in connection with this incident. Both men reportedly disapproved of the teenager’s online content, which they deemed inappropriate for their cultural standards.

According to police officials, a local judge has authorized the detention of both suspects for a period of ten days as investigations are carried out. Honor killings remain a troubling issue in Pakistan, where individuals may resort to violence against female relatives for perceived violations of social norms, including decisively choosing their partners against familial wishes. This case has drawn attention to the broader implications of online expression and personal freedom in a country where traditional values often clash with modern influences.
