Marie-Philip Poulin records hat trick in Victoire’s 4-1 victory against Charge

LAVAL, Quebec — In an impressive display of skill, Marie-Philip Poulin scored three goals, leading the Montreal Victoire to a 4-1 victory over the Ottawa Charge on Wednesday evening, and securing the top position in the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL).

With this performance, Poulin now has the highest number of goals in the league, totaling eight. Additionally, Jennifer Gardiner contributed to the win with one goal and two assists for Poulin’s goals. The Victoire improved their record to 7-2-1-2, climbing ahead of the Minnesota team in the standings. Goaltender Ann-Renée Desbiens made 31 saves, marking her seventh win, which is the best in the league right now.

On the other side, Tereza Vanisova, a former player for Montreal, found the net for Ottawa (5-0-2-7), but the team has been struggling, having lost five of their last six games.

Key Observations:
Victoire: The team successfully continued their impressive form despite missing Laura Stacey due to a lower-body injury. After a 10-day hiatus, they secured their third consecutive win in comfortable fashion.

Charge: Although Ottawa managed to take the early lead in the first period, they only came away with a 1-0 advantage despite outshooting their opponents 15-6. Desbiens’ remarkable keeping was essential in keeping the Victoire competitive during that stretch.

Turning Point:
A significant moment occurred shortly after Ottawa’s Emily Clark failed to capitalize on a breakaway opportunity while the Charge led 1-0. Just 2:09 into the second period, Poulin leveled the score with a stunning one-timer, turning the momentum in favor of the Victoire.

Looking Ahead:
Next, Ottawa will face Toronto on Saturday, while Montreal will host the same team on Thursday night.
