Johnson nets 20 points in VMI’s 74-67 victory over Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — In a thrilling matchup on Wednesday night, VMI triumphed over Wofford with a score of 74-67, thanks in large part to the outstanding performance of TJ Johnson, who scored 20 points.
Johnson had an impressive shooting night, making 6 of 9 attempts, including 5 of 8 from beyond the arc, and converting 3 of 6 at the free-throw line, contributing significantly to the Keydets’ overall performance this season, bringing their record to 10-12 and 4-5 in the Southern Conference.
Rickey Bradley, Jr. also made a notable impact, scoring 16 points. His shooting stats included 3 of 10 from the field, 1 of 5 from three-point range, and an excellent 9 of 10 from the free-throw line, alongside a remarkable five steals. Additionally, Tan Yildizoglu added 15 points to the scoreboard, going 5 of 12 from the field and making 3 of 7 from three-point territory.
On the other hand, the Terriers, who have a record of 11-11 and 5-4 in conference play, were led by Kyler Filewich, who recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Dillon Bailey contributed significantly as well, scoring 15 points, while Justin Bailey chipped in with 11 points and five assists.
VMI established momentum in the first half with a powerful 15-2 run, enabling them to take a commanding 13-point lead. By halftime, they were ahead 41-25, with Johnson carrying the scoring load with 15 points. The Keydets grabbed the lead permanently when AJ Clark sank a three-pointer, shifting the score to 46-43 with 14:31 remaining in the second half.
Both teams are set to return to action on Saturday, with VMI traveling to face Western Carolina, while Wofford is scheduled to play against UNC Greensboro on the road.
