Johnson scores 18 as Mercer defeats The Citadel 80-46

Macon, Ga. — On Wednesday night, Mercer dominated The Citadel with a final score of 80-46, led by Tyler Johnson who contributed 18 points.
Johnson also made his presence known on defense, recording four steals for the Bears, who now hold a record of 11-11 overall and 4-5 in the Southern Conference.
Another standout for Mercer was Marcus Overstreet, who netted 16 points, shooting 7 of 10 from the field and 2 of 3 from the charity stripe, while also achieving a double-double with 10 rebounds and three blocks.
Ahmad Robinson added to the scoring by hitting 6 of 11 shots overall, including 1 of 6 from beyond the arc, and successfully sinking all three of his free throws for another 16 points.

On the opposing side, Brody Fox led The Citadel’s efforts with 11 points and nine rebounds amidst the team’s struggles.
Paxton Davidson also helped out with 10 points and two steals, but the defeat marked the Bulldogs’ 12th consecutive loss.
In the first half, Overstreet was instrumental in giving Mercer an early advantage, scoring seven points and helping the Bears to a 34-18 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Mercer surged ahead with a strong 12-0 run, extending their lead to 34 points, and Johnson played a key role by scoring a team-leading 13 points during this period.

Both teams are set to compete again on Saturday, with Mercer traveling to face Chattanooga while The Citadel will host Samford.
