Dolphins bring Craig Aukerman on board as special teams coordinator

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — On Wednesday, the Miami Dolphins announced the appointment of Craig Aukerman as their new special teams coordinator.
Aukerman brings a wealth of experience to the position, most recently serving as a special teams assistant for the Los Angeles Rams. During his time with the Rams, the team clinched the NFC West title and advanced to the divisional playoff round.

Prior to his role with the Rams, Aukerman dedicated seven seasons to the Tennessee Titans, where he spent five years as the special teams coordinator from 2019 to 2023. Additionally, he worked as a special teams assistant for two years from 2017 to 2018.

Throughout his coaching career, Aukerman has seen success with Pro Bowl players, notably punter Brett Kern and long snapper Morgan Cox. In 2017, Kern notably led the league in both gross and net punting averages, achieving 49.7 yards and 44.6 yards respectively.

However, Aukerman’s tenure with the Titans ended on a low note when he was dismissed during the 2023 season following a tough game. During that match, the Titans experienced a blocked punt which was returned for a touchdown, compounded by punter Ryan Stonehouse suffering a season-ending leg injury shortly thereafter.

In replacing Danny Crossman, who was let go earlier this month after a six-year stint with the Dolphins, Aukerman looks to bring fresh strategies and improve the special teams unit moving forward.
