NEW YORK — The Authors Guild has launched a new online platform allowing its members to affirm that their literary works are the product of human creativity rather than artificial intelligence. This initiative has been termed “Human Authored.”
In a statement made on Wednesday, the guild’s CEO, Mary Rasenberger, emphasized that the aim of the Human Authored initiative is not to dismiss technological advancements, but rather to promote transparency while addressing the readers’ yearning for a human connection in literature. “This initiative celebrates the distinct aspects of storytelling unique to human creativity,” Rasenberger added. Importantly, authors who utilize AI for purposes like spell-checking or research can still qualify for certification, as the focus is on ensuring that the essence of the literary work reflects the distinctive voice and intellect of the author.
To obtain certification, authors must log into the provided online portal, fill out pertinent details regarding their book, and agree to a licensing arrangement. This process allows them to display a specially crafted logo on book covers, spines, or related promotional items.
Additionally, the guild has plans to register the “Human Authored” logo with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, with future intentions to expand the program to include non-member authors.
