Unrivaled is set to host its inaugural one-on-one championship on February 14, marking a significant milestone for the newly formed 3-on-3 women’s basketball league.
The league has unveiled its tournament rules, which will span three days of competitive play. A total of thirty athletes will be organized into four separate pods, and the champion will walk away with a prize of $250,000.
The runner-up will also be rewarded with $50,000, while each semifinalist earns $25,000. Additionally, members of the victorious team in the 3-on-3 format will each take home $10,000.
Fans will have the opportunity to participate in the seeding process for players within their respective pods, which have been allocated taking talent, position, and compelling matchups into account.
The tournament structure will see single-elimination rounds leading up to the finals, with games played until one participant reaches 11 points or the 10-minute mark, whichever occurs first.
The championship finale will adopt a best-of-three format, maintaining the same scoring conditions of aiming for 11 points per game. Scoring will be traditional, with baskets valued at either two or three points.
A seven-second shot clock will be in effect for each possession, and should a player score, they will maintain possession of the ball.
While players can accumulate an unlimited number of fouls, a consecutive foul during non-shooting situations will lead to one point being awarded to the offensive player, who will also retain possession.
In cases of fouling a shot, the player will be awarded a free throw that holds the same value as the attempted shot. Thus, a foul on a three-pointer will count for three points while a foul on a two-pointer will be valued at two points.
If a basket is made and fouled, the player will receive an additional free throw opportunity for one extra point.
Notably, several prominent names such as Brittney Griner, Stefanie Dolson, Sabrina Ionescu, Cameron Brink, Courtney Vandersloot, and Angel Reese will not be participating in this tournament.
The player pods are as follows:
Pod A includes Shakira Austin, Rae Burrell, Natasha Cloud, Chelsea Gray, Jewell Loyd, Azurá Stevens, and Alyssa Thomas. The top seed will enjoy a bye in the opening round.
Pod B features Napheesa Collier, Tiffany Hayes, Rhyne Howard, Lexie Hull, Rickea Jackson, Katie Lou Samuelson, Courtney Williams, and Jackie Young.
Pod C consists of Aliyah Boston, Jordin Canada, Kahleah Copper, Aaliyah Edwards, Allisha Gray, Marina Mabrey, Kate Martin, and Breanna Stewart.
Pod D is made up of DiJonai Carrington, Skylar Diggins-Smith, Dearica Hamby, Kayla McBride, Arike Ogunbowale, Satou Sabally, and Brittney Sykes. The top player in this pod will receive a bye into the second round.
