COLLEGE STATION, Texas — In a close contest on Tuesday night, Zhuric Phelps contributed 15 points while Henry Coleman III added 14, leading No. 13 Texas A&M to a 75-68 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners.
The Aggies improved their record to 16-5 overall and 5-3 in Southeastern Conference play. With roughly 2.5 minutes remaining, Texas A&M was ahead by four points when Wade Taylor IV executed a three-point play, extending their advantage to 68-61.
Oklahoma, which now holds a record of 15-5 and 2-5 in the conference, saw Brycen Goodine score all five points in a late push, reducing the deficit to 70-66 with under a minute left. However, Coleman sealed the game for the Aggies by sinking four consecutive free throws. Goodine was the standout for the Sooners, notching a total of 24 points, whereas Jalon Moore added 22 points to the scoreboard.
For Texas A&M, Taylor scored 12 points and played a pivotal role in their rebounding dominance, where they overpowered Oklahoma in this department, 47 to 19. Pharrel Payne also made his mark with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Despite a challenging night from beyond the arc, hitting only 4 of 24 shots, the Aggies managed to secure the win. The Sooners performed better in this area, connecting on 10 of their 22 attempts from three-point range.
Important notes from the game include that while Oklahoma is improving on the court, they still have substantial progress to make if they wish to contend in the SEC.
